The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health provides a standard language and framework for the description of health and health-related states

The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is the tool of the World Health Organisation (WHO) used to describe and improve the health of the world.  WHO has a broad vision for the health and well-being of the world.  They include the following principles

  • Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity

  • The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.
